While GMA performance has been widely criticized in the past as being too slow for computer games, sometimes being nicknamed Intel GMD (Graphics Media Decelerator) and being essentially referred to as the world's first 'graphics decelerator' since the S3 ViRGE, the latest GMA generation should ease many of those concerns for the casual gamer. Many of the advantages of the new GMA architecture come from the ability to flexibly switch as needed between executing graphics-related tasks or video-related tasks. The 4th generation of GMA combines fixed function capabilities with a threaded array of programmable executions units, providing advantages to both graphics and video performance. However, with the introduction of Intel's 4th generation of GMA architecture (GMA X3000) in 2006, many of the functions are now built into the hardware, providing an increase in performance. Thanks bro and if you were here definitely I will give you a kiss. The original architecture of GMA systems supported only a few functions in hardware, and relied on the host CPU to handle at least some of the graphics pipeline, further decreasing performance. Anyway this is working fine on my friends Panora laptop (I don't know the model because the sticker on the bottom is faded and Everest found it as mobile intel alviso-g i915gm and while searching I got into this blog. I wish could have typed this million times, Unfortunately it will fill up the blog. Click to restart at the end - and then you have it all nice! Under device manager though, I still have 'unknown device' and a yellow warning triangle next to the driver under it. Clicked the top one (something about installing it in the proper way) and voila! Intel box comes up - follow the instructions.
Clicked exit and then a Windows box came up with two options. When finished a box popped up saying 'not installed' or something. It asked me if I wanted to re-write over each file (from previous download) - clicked yes to all of them. Followed instructions in note pad pop up to run a command in the run box (run box is under 'Programs' list - Accessories). Then right clicked on file in downloads folder again and selected run as administrater. The first time it didn't work, but then I right clicked on the file in downloads folder - Proprties - Compatability - Advanced - Compatbility mode for Vista - then Ok. The Gateway link worked for me on Asus Eee 900.
