if you change the Properties of PITFALL.EXE to windows 95 or 98/me, in the game settings you can enable the sound effects and it will work but it will crash the game due to outdated DLL file, there's replacement DLL file from a site " " just download it and replace old DLL file with the new one and the sound effects will work without crashing but it only works if the properties of this game is on windows 95 or 98/me, above that it will not work. there is a way around fixing the sound effects. The biggest problem the game currently has is the audio as there is non, not even sound-effects. it runs in windowed mode but I still experienced some framerate dips, you can play with resolution and screen size but it sadly doesn't really fixes the problem. the RIP version on the other-hand is playable but it has performance and sound issues.
ISO is broken and will not work no matter what I do!. Running this game modern PC's is frustrating. since microsoft acquired activision (the IP holder) we may finally get that wish in the future :)
if there's a game that needs remaster very badly on PC it's definitely this one. it's such a shame this is another case of a classic game that don't play nice on post 95/98 pcs.
the game itself is locked in windowed mode, no way of enlarging it or full screen and and there's no audio at all, there's a way to get it work manaully but it's such a such a hassle and not working very well.
you can play it (kind of) on win10, but you have to properties of the exe file change the windows compatibility to win95 or win 98/me and replace the outdated DLL files otherwise it will not work. Sadly this game is almost impossible to run on modern hardware.
from all the versions i checked and played: Sega CD is hands down the best console version, sega genesis comes very close, SNES is OK but a bit streched and washed out, The 32X version had potential, it's so close rivaling the genesis version but it's bogged down by the horrbile frame rate, The Atari Jaguar version is such let down, despite looking better then the 32X it's buggy, frame rate hickups and overall feels rushed, and the GBA version is down right garbage.īut PC-ROM is the definitive version!!! has the best of both worlds, enhanced graphics of the inferior 32X version, the CD quality audio of the Sega CD, and the exclusive levels from Sega CD/32X version and in smooth 60FPS. i had this game way way back when i had my old win 95, sadly i was only 5 years old at the time and never able to finish it, and i move on i really wanted to play this game properly after all these years. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!, huge fan of the Pitfall games (Pitfall II and mayan adventure are my favorites) a classic side-scroller with smooth framerate and fluid animation clearly inspired by Virgin Interactive/Disney's "Aladdin" and "The Jungle Book".
